Mr. Speaker

I’ve been running this-here blog for some years now, and I thought I’d share something interesting I’ve noticed: for a post to get 1 comment, it must first be viewed by 100 people. Pretty much EXACTLY 100. For 2 comments? 200 page views. 3 comments? You guessed it.

It’s really weird. Every post seems to average out to 100 views per comment. I dunno why.

Now, I’m not counting comments from friends or, if I had any, regulars. And I’m not counting posts which have become forum-type discussions (such as the great Talking Boony discussions of 2006). Annnd, I’ve filtered out most (or at least a bunch) of spiders and bots - so it’s mostly real page views.

But general posts where I’ve written something vaguely informative ALL get the 100-to-1 ratio. It certainly has raised some niggling questions; Is this everyone’s magic number? Is it tied to my Technorati ranking? Is it a universal constant that changes based only on my server’s distance from the sun?

Anyway, I wasn’t going to say anything, and I’ve tried to ignore it for so long - but its accuracy is starting to freak me out.
